The ability to have an Underwater Inspection in-Lieu of Dry-docking (UWILD) can save a great deal of money for the ship owner/operator. KT Commercial Divers focuses on assessing the structural integrity of the vessel. Our divers are trained to inspect for damage to hull plates and propeller blades, including cracking, bending and worn-out anodes. They also look for clogged sea chest grids, leaking stern tube seals and any other damage that may need to be repaired before the vessel can leave port.
All of our certified diving personnel are thoroughly trained in ship structures, appendages, nomenclature, ting condition and cathodic protection systems. Each class society survey is completed with an underwater CCTV and a full written ship hull inspection report. We also offer an email link so our customers have the opportunity to view the video before receiving hard copies. Since 1990, we have averaged 60 class society surveys annually.
If damage is identified during the underwater inspection, the ship may require underwater welding services before leaving port. Underwater welding may be needed to repair cracks in the hull of the vessel, to install cathodic protection, and/or temporarily repair cracks on the rudder or rudder blades. KT Divers is skilled, trained and fully certified, with extensive experience in underwater welding and hull repairs.
